Darren Bloom Eve
Darren Bloom, conductor
From Errolyn Wallen’s ballet Horseplay exploring the anthropomorphic facets of one of our species’ most enduring companion animals, to the contemplative and complex relationship we have with water in Georgia Denham’s Boat Song, and the existential crisis at the heart of a foundational religious story in Darren Bloom’s Eve, this concert is ultimately about relationships and the human condition. To conclude, we celebrate Richard Causton’s 50th birthday with his seminal Chamber Symphony, an extraordinarily dramatic, and yet reflective, work that confronts the crisis of mechanisation and ‘the devaluation of the individual work of art’ through the mystical lens of William Blake.
